This is more "give the extremists what they want and they'll stop hurting you". There was an op-ed in salon a couple months back I blogged about on my substack where the guy was arguing that covid isn't political anymore if you just stop getting vaccinated and don't wear masks or test or anything - you'll get along with your qanon neighbors ok! I was told the immuncompromised could always one-way mask... that if we just stop asking the trumper doctors to mask when we need healthcare everything will be ok because they just don't like mandates! Now there are mask bans! People are fired from jobs from masking. In some places doctors refuse to mask even when they're sick and seeing transplant patients. People were told to calm down about Roe V Wade - if you just ban most abortions they'll stop and be satisfied! Now they're going after birth control. Same thing is happening with vaccines, it takes a big effort lobbying to make sure the covid vaccines keep being made available, and when we lobby - we're told we're "fear mongering" that of course there'll always be the next vaccine! Even though if you listen in the public meeting of the committee who makes that decision they say it's not a sure thing, and almost restricted the vaccines yet again. So excuse me if I call bullshit on all these "just capitulate and give them what they want and it won't get worse" because they always want more. The right-wing doesn't even want silos, they want conformity from everyone. It's a fantasy that we're all going to find these perfect segregated communes to live in happily while the world burns? What about interfaith marriages? What about people born into the "wrong" community? That's where trouble starts. If you listen to the people pushing for these segregated situations, what they talk about is eventual domination. There's no compromise, that's fantasyland hopium that some people put out there to lull everyone because of elite panic - they're more worried about us being angry and fighting against it than they are the consequences of injustice. There's a concerted PR campaign across all these issues to tell us "relax and let the trumpism happen" it's all about quieting us down, and political deactivation - for one side (not the right extremists of course!)
