The other element of enshitification is minimizing competition. Take away or crush the alternatives then people just have to accept whatever they’re served. Here in Florida that’s already in effect with public schools.
I disagree that "There is no profit to be wrung out of public schools". Consider the billions in revenue generated each year from standardized testing. Many states have now also mandated that school districts purchase the questionable SoR curriculum to further enrich the Bush family. There is so much outsourcing, even of core instructional services, that enshittification is indeed taking place in the public schools. Once private equity is involved (via outsourced vendors) it's far less educating going on and far more wealth extraction.
