I have maintained, throughout the various stages of Musk's various spasms, that I would stick with Twitter till the last light is turned off, if for no other reason than I want to be able to see it happen and tell the story.
Peter, finding your blog (at about the same time Jennifer Berkshire was writing her Edushyster posts) convinced me I wasn't paranoid or hallucinatory. I killed off my FaceBook account the day it came to light they'd been manipulating people's feeds with positive or negative stories. I was a late a Twitter adopter, starting in the run-up to kill off the Waltons' attempt at unlimited charters in MA in 2016. I found a local, passionate group of parents, fellow citizens and educators. We used Twitter as an organizing tool, and we beat the Waltons 2:1.
Like you, I've used Twitter as a reading list. But I'm not going to pay Elon, and I'll likely just go back to the days without social media. It'll be okay, but there are some folks I'll really miss.
I honestly think it might be better if people moved to no place at all. There are so many downsides to online communication, and I think forming more opinions based on in-person interactions could be a good thing.
