I taught my ass off online in spring 2020 and white-knuckled teaching in-person through all but 2-3 weeks of 2020-2021 (w/o being vaccinated until April and on the heels of cancer and open heart surgery). Perhaps this explains my anger at the suggestion that schools were closed the whole time.

Imagine instead of this blame game if we used this time to discuss what learning could and should look like (and how to make sure it happens) during the next pandemic (when we might not get a vaccine so fast and children might be more vulnerable). But this is not about readiness.

It’s amazing how there’s a narrative of the NEA and/or AFT influencing CDC guidelines for opening schools, which no one had to follow anyway as they are guidelines and not law. Meanwhile, the reason why quarantines in almost every sector of the economy and society went down to 5 days is because the CEO of Delta Airlines wrote a letter asking for it. It seems people don’t know or remember that.
