100%! I just finished reading Winners Take All by Anand Giridharadas and he talks about precisely this concept. He calls them "market world" ideas. Others call them neoliberal, or technocratic, but in the end it's all the same. People believing only in their own humanity and complexity and simplifying everyone else into data points representative of individual parts of a human being. I believe strongly in the power of data and science, but I think "market world" people have been drawn in by data solving some problems and they don't understand the limits of it. When McKinsey Comes to town also highlights this narrowminded thinking in the consulting industry which has shaped so much public policy today and brought harm to so many.
