I agree about using a balanced approach. I just wanted to share what my Bible says in the notes for Proverbs 13:24. “The rod ‘imparts wisdom’ and promises a healthy and happy family. Discipline is rooted in love. ‘Rod,’ probably a figure of speech for discipline of any kind.” The word discipline is related to the word “disciple.” To discipline a child is to teach them right from wrong. It does not require punishment, but punishment is easier, so that's what people do the most.
