I understand your point and don't disagree, but the hard part is convincing KIDS what is relevant. I taught HS English for 17 years. As a professional adult, I understand why good writing and grammar are relevant, but try and tell that to a freshman. Make it a game, so it's "relevant" by winning points, 14-year-old engaged, lol. Unfortunately, those tricks are often what is needed to engage a still developing brain.
