In a new Education Week piece, Bettina Love bemoans the lack of interest in education expressed by the Presidential candidates this time around, deeming it an afterthought.
Great piece. Although I respect Bettina Love, too-- I'm totally in alignment with your synopsis of federal ed policy, tracking back. I also agree that not hearing from national and even state candidates about education is A-OK. In fact, a question about education in a Congressional or Gubernatorial debate (even from politicians I love) most often draws an answer that begins with hand-wringing about test scores and winds up with preparing kids for the 21st century. I don't think I've ever heard a pol speak to public education preparing students to be engaged citizens.
George Carlin nails it.
