The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is, says The Nation, "a toxic alliance of corporations and state legislatures that work together to ensure that corporate interests stay at the top of legislative agendas across the country."
The most troubling thing for me in thinking through this is exactly what kind of workers is this going to produce? I would argue the education system is indeed to produce the workers of the future and those workers are going to need very different skills than those roles we're having difficulty filling right now would demand.
It would deepen and entrench that status quo. More of the same precarious economic status, but applied to even more of the population than before. That's my thought, at least.
ALEC supporters, financial were boycotted at one point which led to many of their sponsors to pull out of the organization. It's time to do that again. They are the same groups that are funding Turning Point USA and a bunch of others.
