I’m so sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds like a very special person, but I know he must have been because he raised you (I’ve been reading your stuff for years). I lost my dad 2 1/2 years ago to Covid so I know what you mean about not crying much and expect that you probably are correct that at some point something will just hit you and you will melt. When a loved one, dies, Jews say may their memory be for blessing. I hope your dad‘s memory is always a warm place in your heart.
Losing a dad is so hard. He sounds like a great guy and a wonderful father. I'm so sorry for your loss. Loved the picture of your lake house and everything it stands for for your family. Thank you for this piece.
I’m so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Scotty was a very special person. He and your mom are very dear to me even though we haven’t actually seen each other in years. My parents loved them…my dad often said Scotty was the smartest person he ever met. He insisted that I learn to change a tire even though I did not yet have my license. And he took apart an old piano and refelted all of the keys. It was a great summer!
Thank you, Peter for writing this tribute to your dad. It is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your memory of your father’s life and his passing. My family is at that point with my father. Your tribute has helped shift my perspective about my father’s life and his impending death. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Thanks for letting all your readers share a glimpse of your dad, with these beautiful words and thoughts. My own father died 43 years ago-- perhaps it will be a comfort for you to know that I think of him every day, that he's still sharp and fresh in my memory, and that the greatest gift is knowing you and your dad were on good and loving terms as he passed.
All of that makes it easier to heal, to absorb the loss and go on, knowing that there is much to live for. My condolences to you and your family.
Dear Peter - This is just a lovely tribute to your Dad's well lived life. I'm glad you've had him for so long. Best wishes and comfort to you and your mother and the rest of the clan.
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now - not quite sure how I found you & you definitely don’t know me. I just want to say that this is a beautiful tribute to your father. I’m sorry for your loss & glad that he was well loved and lived well. Thank you for this reflection.

You had a great father. How lucky you were to have him as long as you did.
A beautiful tribute. The final paragraphs really got me. Thank you so much for sharing it.

I’m sorry for your loss. My dad was born in 35 and passed way in April of 2019. Clearly, 1935 was a good year. He was a great man much like your dad.
