"So the money will still flow, but the purpose will no longer be to level the playing field. It will not be about making sure every child gets the education they're entitled to"

I'm curious as to how this "leveling of the playing field" is currently accomplished by the Department. They rarely take any money from state's out of compliance nor do they offer any other means of punishment for failure to comply.

I'm agnostic about the removal of the department, but I find the arguments on both sides...sorta...weak sauce. Neither closing it nor mainting it at it's current level will have any real impact. Just my two cents.

Again, you have hit the nail squarely on the head. I was going to write that this is a loss for every child in our schools, but that's not true. The children of the elite will be well educated, as has always been the case.
