Plaudits to your wife. And thanks for a thoughtful, well-written reminder that art imitates life. Every time I've seen Cabaret, it's left me stunned. I went to the Holocaust Museum last weekend in D.C. and the first section of the permanent exhibit, on the rise of Nazism in 1930s Germany, was all about the power of denial, the human preference for national pride, strong leadership, and festive communal gatherings. Sobering, to say the least.

From the Israel-Hamas war, to the democracy-at-stake 2024 election, to the existential climate crisis, to the persistent struggle to survive of so many people, we are certainly in one of those dark need to make a choice moments about how and whether to jump into the struggle for human rights or to turn in ourselves in a vain attempt to hide. Thanks for this.
