I generally agree with your take on ai chatbots. But, full disclosure, I still use them.

I use them as a tool like I use a gps. I always check a map first and then let the gps guide me to the best route. I do however know approximately where I’m going.

Chatbots are similar. I understand that the chatbot might make a mistake or give me false information so I always check the sources or try to find my own sources that agree or not. It’s a “trust, but verify” sort of arrangement.

There’s still room in our lives for critical thinking.

Wired issue 33.09 (Sept 2025) has a horribly fascinating story about “What’s it like to be deeply, seriously in love with a chatbot?” The author organized a weekend getaway for three happy “couples”. It seems rather sick, but you also have some empathy for people finding happiness where they can.
